*For those of you who have been kind enough to save Campbell's UPC labels and lids from some items (see bulletin board for details) for SHEPHERDS (a ministry to adults with mental disabilities), in December they had enough labels to receive a new van and they are awaiting its delivery. So, thank you for bringing in the labels. Feel free, if you want, to bring in the whole label not disturbing the UPC bar code nor the 5 points box on some items. Please leave them in the hallway drop box.

*The College-Age/Young Professionals go out to eat September 19, 2010 after the Worship Service. Direct questions to Jaime McDonald.

 

*The Brown Bag Ladies have food to distribute to those in need. Please contact either Carol Armstrong or Myrna Porter with those who could use a little help.

Hootie says "Whooo will read this summer?" Kids (age 2 through grade 12), register for the Library's Summer Reading Program that best suits your reading style and earn prizes as you read or listen. Sign up for the group that best suits you:

*Homecoming 2010, Celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Family Center. Saturday and Sunday, September 11 and 12...which will include a Saturday night dog'n chips dinner and concert with the Thurston's (love offering). On Sunday, there will be a Bible Study "High Attendance Day", an exciting celebration service, followed by "dinner on the grounds" all in the family center. As we prepare for this exciting weekend, we would like our church family to help us get the word out by passing out doorknockers throughout our beautiful city on Saturday, August 28, breakfast and prayer at 7:30 a.m., the plan is to be on the streets by 8:00 a.m. If you know of folks who have moved away but would love to attend, please leave contact information in the church office in view of an invitation letter. *Dinner on the Grounds . . . a special request for each of our families to bring a SALAD or VEGETABLE and a DESSERT.  The main dish will be provided.  Because of visitors from our community please prepare your dish to serve a minimum of 15 people.

 

*Ladies Fall Kick-off Indoor Picnic, Tuesday, August 31, 6:00 p.m. in the Family Center. Be sure to invite a friend to come with you. Come and enjoy special music, and a special testimony. Please bring a main dish, salad, or dessert to share.

 

*Retreat Registrations...If you plan to attend the Men's or the Ladies' Retreat Camp Barakel, please send your registration form and fee of $50 directly to Camp Barakel.

 

*The Ladies' Bible Study...Begins, Wednesday, September 15, Room 207, 9:00-11:00 a.m. Our fall study will be "To Live is Christ", a study of the life and ministry of the apostle Paul, by Beth Moore. For more information, contact Carol Armstrong.

 

*Worship Choir Rehearsal...begins Wednesday, September 1 at 7:30 p.m.

Retired Col. Jack Lousma will be ministering the Word Sunday, September 5. Jack is one of the 19 astronauts selected by NASA in April 1966. He was the pilot for Skylab-3 (July 28 to September 25, 1973) and was spacecraft commander on STS-3 (March 22-30, 1982), logging a total of over 1,619 hours in space. Lousma also spent 11 hours on two spacewalks outside the Skylab space station. He also served as backup docking module pilot of the United States flight crew for the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project (ASTP) mission which was completed successfully in July 1975. Jack left NASA in 1983.
